چکیده

Abstract Background and Aims The aim of this study was to compare the prognosis hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) between dialysis non-dialysis patients. Method In retrospective observational study, we examined consecutive patients with naïve localized HCC, who were treated radiofrequency ablation (RFA) February 2000 December 2017. categorized into two subgroups based on whether they maintenance (Dialysis Group, n=458) or not (Non-dialysis n=13), followed until 2019. primary endpoint overall survival using Kaplan-Meier analysis. As for propensity score matching, matched 13 pairs cases by age, sex, Child-Pugh score, tumor size, number tumors HCV positivity. We also compared causes death 2 groups. Results cohort aged 69.9±9.1 years included 328 male (70%). Hepatitis B positive in 37 (7.9%), C 322 (68.4%) co-infection HBV detected 3 (0.6%). Ninety-five (20.2%) heavy alcohol drinkers. Dialysis younger (p=0.004), total bilirubin, AST, ALT levels significantly lower PT level higher. entire cohort, comparable Group Non-dialysis (5-year rate 55.2% vs 52.7%, respectively; p =0.144). matching analysis, however, showed worse than 52.7% 92.3%, =0.018). During period, 255 (54%) died. death, liver-related occurred 44% 67% whereas cardiovascular 22% 5% Group. Procedure-related major complication first RFA session each patient 0% Conclusion Prognosis poorer ones, which may be explained a higher non-liver-related population. Since RFA, per se, has been safely preformed patients, prognostic improvement expected treating HCC as aggressively cases.

Hepatocellular carcinoma in hemodialysis patients

We investigated the rates and predictors of mortality in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients who were or were not undergoing long-term hemodialysis. The participants in this retrospective observational study were 1298 HCC patients (60.0 ± 12.1 years old, 72% male), of whom 172 were undergoing hemodialysis and 1126 were not. HCC patients on hemodialysis exhibited a higher hepatitis C virus c...

Hepatocellular carcinoma in a sheep

At necropsy of a five-year-old sheep, a pear shaped, lobular yellow-brownish mass measuring about 12 ×15 × 20 cm was found to involve the right hepatic lobe. Microscopic examination revealed two trabecularand solid patterns of neoplastic hepatocytes. In solid pattern, there were numerous tumoral giant cells thatcontain one or more large hyperchromatic bizarre-shaped nuclei scattered among clust...

Evaluation of serum AFP (α-fetoprotein) level in HBsAg carrier patients for diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is common all over the world as well as Iran. The incidence of HCC is higher in hepatitis B carriers and it is highly recommended to periodically screen these patients by serum alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) and liver ultrasound (US) every 6 months. We explore the diagnostic accuracy and the performance of (AFP) in cases of hepatitis B carriers as a scree...

Status of serum alpha feto-protein (AFP) and midkine (MDK) levels in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma

Introduction: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is sixth common cancers worldwide and predominant in Asia and Africa. A number of evidence suggests a possible role of midkine (MDK) and α-fetoprotein (AFP) in the pathogenesis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Materials and methods: We studied MDK and AFP in patients with HCC or in healthy controls. MDK and AFP was measured by enzyme linked immuno...
